Blackpool Junior Basketball was founded in late 2024 with a simple mission: give every child on the Fylde Coast access to quality basketball coaching in a fun, supportive environment.
The Gap We Saw
The Fylde Coast had talented young athletes, enthusiastic kids, and a growing interest in basketball. But existing programmes left many children behind. Some clubs were too competitive for beginners. Others were too expensive for families. Many kids wanted to try basketball but felt intimidated or didn't know where to start.
We saw children missing out – and we wanted to change that.
What We Built
Rather than create another elite-focused academy for the chosen few, we built something different: inclusive programmes that welcome every child, regardless of ability or experience.
From nervous 5-year-olds taking their first shot to competitive 15-year-olds preparing for club trials, everyone receives the same quality coaching, encouragement, and support. We blend elite-level expertise with grassroots accessibility, creating an environment where kids develop basketball skills and life skills like resilience, discipline, and leadership.
The Response
What started with a handful of local children on Sunday mornings quickly became the fastest-growing basketball community on the Fylde Coast. Parents noticed their kids genuinely looked forward to sessions. Teachers recommended us at schools. Word spread.
In 2025, just months after launching, we were honoured to win the Local Sports & Fitness Award at the Fylde Coast Community Awards – recognition that our approach was making a genuine difference to children's confidence, fitness, and wellbeing across the community.
We now serve hundreds of young players through our Sunday Junior Sessions, intensive Day Camps, and focused Mid-Week Courses. Every programme reflects our founding belief: basketball should be accessible, enjoyable, and transformative for every child.
